Elite men and women amateur players competing in Europe again have an additional chance to qualify for The Open and the AIG Women’s Open this summer.
After its introduction in 2023, the best performing player across ‘The Open Amateur Series’, a sequence of three elite amateur championships, will gain an exemption into The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush from 17-20 July.
The player that receives the most World Amateur Golf Ranking® (WAGR®) points across The St Andrews Links Trophy, The Amateur Championship and the European Amateur Championship this summer will be awarded a spot to compete in Northern Ireland.
Irishman Alex Maguire won the inaugural series and played in The 151st Open at Royal Liverpool, before Scotland’s Calum Scott topped last year’s series and went on to win the Silver Medal as leading amateur at The 152nd Open at Royal Troon.
Following its launch last year, an exemption category is also available for women through ‘The AIG Women’s Open Amateur Series’. Louise Rydqvist from Sweden claimed series success in 2024.
