The Open is golf’s original Championship. Played since 1860 on iconic links golf courses, it is the sport’s most international major championship with qualifying events on every continent.

For one week each year, the pursuit of the famous Claret Jug trophy is the focus of the sporting world, followed globally by millions of fans. Cameron Smith is the defending champion after his historic success in The 150th Open at St Andrews in 2022.
The 151st Open

Royal Liverpool, England

After the celebrations of The 150th Open at St Andrews in 2022, the next staging of golf’s original Championship is at Hoylake. This will be the 13th time the Championship has been held at Royal Liverpool and the first since Rory McIlroy lifted the Claret Jug there in 2014. The famous links on the Wirral will again welcome a world-class field after Australian Cameron Smith held off Cameron Young and McIlroy to win The Open over the Old Course last July.
