The 2026 Girls' U16 Amateur Championship took place at Gog Magog Golf Club from April 24-26.
The 54-hole stroke play championship, first played at Fulford in 2018, was introduced as part of The R&A’s drive to boost the girls’ game in Great Britain and Ireland and beyond, as well as provide a pathway to the elite amateur level for leading young players.
In 2026 Scotland’s Carly McDonald finished in style for a record-breaking win. The St Andrews native joins fellow Scots Grace Crawford (2022) and Hannah Darling (2018) as winner thanks to an impressive final day seven-under-par round of 65.
This represents the lowest final round from a victor, and saw her finish three shots ahead of Switzerland’s Lana Guyot with a 14-under-par total for the week. McDonald’s total sets a new 54-hole record.
The triumph saw McDonald claim the Angela Uzielli Trophy. Angela was a decorated amateur golfer, including representing Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup in 1978. Angela was the wife of John Uzielli, Past Captain of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews. Angela sadly passed away in 1999 and John in 2025.
